In August 2021, the Ida hurricane of category 4 stroke Lousiana and led to massive floods. By special request of local authorities, 8 experts from IFAW came on-site for three weeks in order to save animals. A temporary rescue center with a capacity of 250 animals could welcome and vaccinate dogs. The help from the Rescue & Recover Fund could cover the needs in surgery and distribution of vital treatments for injured, dehydrated or hungry animals.
