In November and December 2015, the Chennai region was ravaged for several weeks by torrential rains. On December 1, she received the equivalent of two months' worth of rain in 24 hours. More than one million people were affected by the floods (including 269 deaths) and 200,000 people had to be evacuated from the city. The total damage is estimated at 4 billion euros. All donations collected in India went directly to CARE India, while donations collected in the rest of the world as well as the Bank's matching contribution went to CARE France.
