Between late July and early August 2018, a series of earthquakes hit the island of Lombok in Indonesia. A total of 555 people died, most in the north of the island, close to the epicentre of most earthquakes, and others on the neighbouring island of Sumbawa, also affected by the tremors. More than 1,500 people were also injured and 156,000 were evacuated from the main island. Most buildings have been destroyed, electricity has been cut off and health infrastructure and transport are severely damaged. The main difficulty on the ground is due to the lack of food and drinking water for the displaced. The Rescue & Recover Fund has launched a local campaign with its donors and CIB Asia-Pacific employees.
