The Rescue & Recover Fund takes action!
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake rocked the island of Celebes in Indonesia last Friday, September 28 at the end of the day. A few minutes later a powerful tsunami formed and devastated the coastal area of ??the island, including the city of Palu (350 000 inhabitants).
Search, rescue and recovery efforts are underway involving the Indonesian military and multi-agency teams, including staff from Palang Merah Indonesia (Indonesian Red Cross) and CARE. Assessments and the provision of immediate assistance, including first aid and basic medical services, are also underway alongside search, rescue and evacuation efforts. More than 2,000 people dead and thousands injured or missing! The UN estimates that there are 200,000 people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance on the ground.
